VOL II (I'm late with this entry due to a kidney stone that is no more)
And now for a most bizarre entry of my strange
Quantum Mechanical Trip from London to Bern Switzerland that proved to be more bizarre than the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle.
I left London Saturday morning 2 March and took the train from St. Pancras Station to Dover Priory Station, then a taxi to the P&O Ferry ship to Calais France. After getting my ticket in Dover for the ship ride I strolled over to the kiosk to get a coffee and there were two young ladies in queue ahead of me. AS I looked up I was surprised to see two British girls about 21 years of age chatting and laughing whilst waiting for their coffee. They had on Super Mario Brothers costumes and one of them, Kiristie, had a magic marker black moustache and the other one, April, had a paste on moustache. I had a strange feeling like I was entering Bizarroland like that of a Seinfeld episode. Now I just had to ask them what the hell was going on. They told me they were participants in a college contest to see how far they could travel throughout the EU without paying for any fares whether that be trains, planes, cars, or ships. They could not accept any money for a fare. They had to validate any and all travel to where they say they had been to.
I asked them if I could take a few photos of them for my travel blog and they instantly said yes. After which they asked me where I was headed and I told them to Calais to hire a Hertz car and then drive to Bern Switzerland........they then asked if they could come with me..........I said yes and we started exchanging more info about each other on a get to know basis.
They both were friendly and funny as well. So we did the 90 minute ride across the English Channel to Calais and got a taxi to the Hertz place.........once there I transacted the car hire as I did in past and the people there at Hertz know me very well form doing this bit over a ten year period in past, many many times in fact................except this time my credit cards were rejected and I couldn't understand why.......so I called Chase Bank in New York only to have some lady tell me they froze my credit cards because someone at a Hertz car rental place in Calais Franc was trying to rent a car for two months...........I laughed and cried at the same time and yelled............THAT SOMEONE IS ME, LUV!...............silly sod. We got to Hetz at 2 PM and drove off finally at 5 PM, which meant a very long night drive to Bern. I took 11 hours in fact. The girls didn't drive so I did the 11 hours and they helped by chatting with me to keep me awake. They were very funny and we laughed and joked all the trip. Every time we stopped for petrol, coffee, ro snacks people just stared in bewilderment, especially with them in their costumes (see the photos below). By the time the trrip was over I made two more friends for life, we promised to stay in touch.............they were superb travel mates and I would do it all over again with them anytime. We were all spent when we finally pulled into the hotel at 4 AM Sunday and the girls stayed at the hotel and left early that morning. LATE UPDATE: I received some texts from them that they made it as far as Milan Italy before their contest time ended. I hope they won.
Here are the photos of that bizarre episode of my travels.
Some no good person (cretin) actually killed this baby tiger and had it stuffed. It was found in a London home. I hope the person was imprisoned for this terrible crime. I saw two women moving this glass case thru St. Pancras station it on exhibit for an animal rights group to show the autrocities still going one by such bastards.
Ah, my two travel mates I traveled to Bern with
Kirstie as Luigi (Green) and April as Mario (Orange)
Some French bloke wet met on board the ship.
Christoph and I at the Hertz place, he's the manager.
A chance pose.
We tried to get a shot at a blood moon that was out that night.
The best shot of the Blood Moon.
My room at the Hotel Allegro in Bern.
Hotel lobby and outside regions.
The bridge I took daily to Old Bern city centre.
The hotel at a distance from bridge.
This is the famous old clock that Albert Einstein rode by on his bike daily, near his apartment at #49 Kramgasse, Bern.
Einstein must have gotten ideas about space time whilst going by the clock every day.
Ah, me favourite photos.
It was closed on Sunday.
A gun shop in Bern.
THIS IS CONTINUED ON ANOTHER LATER POST DUE TO A BLOG ERROR, LOOK FOR THEM UP TOP OF THIS POST.
THANKS, DAVID
